Researcher V

Kimberly Wood, PhD

Dr. Kimberly Wood is a Researcher V in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurobiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). She earned her PhD in Behavioral Neuroscience from UAB. She graduated with her bachelor's in science with Honors in Psychology at UAB. Outside of the lab, Kimberly enjoys hiking with friends and spending time with family.

Andrew Meddaugh

Andrew Meddaugh is a clinical research coordinator at the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurobiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.  He has an undergraduate educational background in psychology from the University of Houston.

Becca Pitts

Becca Pitts is a clinical research coordinator at the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurobiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.  She holds a Masters Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.  She enjoys cooking, traveling, and spending time with her husband, son, and sweet pup, Maya.

Hudson Sneed

Hudson Sneed is a clinical research coordinator at the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurobiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences and a minor in Studio-Art. Outside of work, he enjoys painting, fitness, and exploring new places in the city!

Alexandria Jones

Alexandria Jones is a clinical research coordinator at the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurobiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience and minors in Chemistry and Forensic Science. She enjoys traveling, spending time outdoors, and trying out new restaurants.

Skylar Morriss

Skylar Morriss earned her B.S. in Psychology and Master of Social Work from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She is currently a licensed social worker. Her research interests are centered around life outcomes in schizophrenia, symptom monitoring in functional seizures, the effects of sleep on adolescent obesity, and child safety. She enjoys reading, hiking, and spending time with her cat, Harry.

Erika Botello Esquivel

Erika Botello Esquivel earned a bachelor's degree in Psychology from Georgia Gwinnett College. Her research interests include using neuroimaging to better understand psychosis spectrum disorders. She enjoys spending time with her family and crafting gifts for friends.

Graduate Students

Hyun Freeman

Hyun Freeman is a graduate student in the Medical/Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She graduated with her bachelor's in science in Psychology with a minor in neuroscience from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She enjoys baking, spending time outdoors, and spending time with her family.



Maria Stǎnicǎ 

Maria Stǎnicǎ earned her B.A. in Psychology from the University of California, Berkeley. She is currently a graduate student in the Medical/Clinical Psychology PhD Program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Her research interests are centered around negative symptoms in schizophrenia and bipolar disorder using structural neuroimaging techniques. She enjoys reading, baking, making puzzles, spending time outdoors, and hanging out with friends and her cat, Luna.   

Our lab is accepting undergraduate students for Spring 2025 and a graduate student for Fall 2025.   We are also looking for a postdoctoral fellow who is interested in investigating the underlying mechanisms of social dysfunction in serious mental illness.
